I purchased my Sportage new in March 2023. In January 2024, I had the above message appear after 4,600 miles. I took it to my dealer who informed me that rectification was not covered under the 7-year warranty. The rectification cost me £229, which was after a discount after complaining about, what I considered to be an item that should have been covered under warranty,

Today I have received the same message again, and having driven only a further 4,000 miles, I find this unacceptable. t am now looking at a further similar cost to rectify meaning that in 10 months I will have paid approximately £450 in a car that has covered 8,700 miles from new.

I should say that 605+ of my journeys are motorway/long distance and the advice to give keep my car driving to re-generate exhaust filter does not rectify the problem.

I would like to know whether this is a communal problem with Sportages. Have any other owners experienced this problem?

Thanks for your reply. That should have read 60% + of my journeys. Having taken advice from another Kia dealer during the week, I drove on the motorway for over 30 minutes in 4th gear at 60 + mph, then drove a similar return journey. This still failed to clear the GPF, so I feel that I have no alternative but to get the dealer to resolve the problem for me at a cost of £72

I should say this is a petrol Sportage not diesel. Also dealer recommended that I try using higher octane fuel??

I to recently purchased a 2023 sportage to replace an 8yr octavia estate diesel as I found i was having to do a regen every week and a half and didn't want the bother so imagine my disappointment when I get dash message to keep driving to regen.....hmmmm. Contacted Kia who offered a forced regen for £75 but suggested I tried a long, 3000 rev run. This did not work so after some research found that Hyundai suggest selecting 3rd gear or 4th on motorway and hitting 4000 revs then backing off for 5 seconds and repeating until cleared. It definitely worked for me. A 40 min drive on motorway and the light extinguished - much to my relief. I'm a lazy driver and hardly ever rise above 2000 revs but have now realised I need to change my driving style to suit these new petrol cars and use more revs. The result I've found is using more revs has actually decreased my fuel consumption, the car runs smother and today on a hilly motorway journey of 35 miles the car returned 55 mpg for that journey which is almost what I was getting from my diesel skoda. Maybe now I can love my Sportage instead of thinking the purchase was a huge mistake.
